Case Study: Managing a giant corporate mural project
Client: Confidential
November 2022
The brand
A large international tech company known for their computer software and hardware. As much as we would love to brag about who this client is, we were asked not to reveal their name in any marketing materials online.
The Brief
Kerbel Design was approached by Art & Associates in the U.S. to manage and install hand-painted murals for a popular international tech company in their new Canadian HQ at CIBC Square. 13 of the murals were to be designed by Tierra Connor, a Canadian illustrator to depict scenes from around Canada. The rest of the murals were developed by Ai3 to represent different aspects of the company’s offerings and history.
The scope of this project was challenging, with 20 detailed murals in total that needed to be painted with precision. The fact that we had just nine weeks to complete them added another level of complexity to the project.
Paint by numbers
Number of murals painted: 20
Decorative accents added: 4
Number of weeks to paint: 9
Pantone-matched paint colours used: 32
Painters on the team: 8 + Lauren
Projectors used: 3
The process
Kerbel Design was tasked with putting together a team to hand-paint the murals onto drywall and wood panelling throughout the office space. Our client was based out of the States, and couldn’t make it up to Toronto as frequently as they would have liked due to the pandemic, so in addition to managing the painting aspects of the project, Lauren led virtual site visits for the Art Consultants and Interior Designers before painting began, coordinated scheduling with the construction team, and hired a professional photographer to document the process and finished murals.
