Case Study: Giving an old building a new identity

the brand
Avling Brewery is a craft brewery and restaurant in Toronto.
the brief
Avling wanted signage that reflected the character of the neighbourhood and building while complementing the modern design of the interior. We decided to use the brand’s chosen typeface for all of the lettering, painted in a monochrome palette with 22 karat “Moon Gold” as an accent.
the process
The first layer of paint down for the brewery sign. We ended up putting a bottle shop sign below the brewery sign because at the time this was where the bottle shop was, but we knew it was going to be moved, so designed the sign to still work when we later had to remove the “bottle shop” portion of it.
